Top Reasons to Upgrade
New and Improved Tools
New: Coverage Analyzer
The Coverage and Hotspot Analyzer complements and extends the functionality in Devel::Cover by analyzing code coverage and hotspots in Perl programs and test suites. Through a unified visual interface, developers can visually test and compare different versions of a program, or compare different test runs on the same code.Improved: PerlApp
PerlApp is the industry-standard tool for creating and deploying Perl executables to all major platforms. Heuristic refinements in PDK 7 provide more sophisticated module wrapping, improving executable performance. Platform support has been extended to 64-bit Linux (x64), Solaris (Sparc) and Windows (x64), and to Mac OS X, allowing users with up-to-date architecture to take advantage of PerlApp's powerful features. Unix versions of PerlApp have been redesigned to use dynamically linked runtime libraries, resulting in much smaller executables.New Platforms
Mac OS X
By popular demand, PDK support has been extended to Mac OS X, allowing users to take advantage of PDK's tools for deploying executables, text filtering, and optimization through code coverage and hotspot analysis.
64-bit Support
Rather than run 32-bit programs in emulation, PDK provides native 64-bit support on Windows (x64), Linux (x64,) and Solaris (Sparc).
-
Windows (x64)
Support for PerlApp, as well as tools for deploying code as Windows Services, in the System Tray, or as ActiveX components. -
Linux (x64) and Solaris (Sparc)
PerlApp support has been added for both platforms.
Solaris and AIX GUIs
Users running Solaris 10 on Intel (x86) and AIX 5 can now choose between a command line or graphic user interface for PerlApp, for new visual guides to build options.
